Thoughts on Going Nowhere

If you’ve been confused by all my babbling about the “Missions Trip to Nowhere” this past week, allow me an explanation. This was a missions trip to our city. While it is wonderful to raise money and go to other nations that need to hear the Gospel, the premise behind this trip is what about every other day of the year? How are we intentionally living on mission in our schools, jobs, homes, and relationships? Hence, we call it “Nowhere”.

Here are some thoughts from the week:

  • I’m so proud of our team this year. We encountered some less-than-pleasant weather conditions and everyone rose up to the challenge with great attitudes.
  • We did community service in the Southside. Despite the rain, we were able to accomplish a lot of projects, meet people, and help prepare the way for LifeStone Church’s launch next weekend.
  • We passed out 600 free bottles of water to fans at the Pirate game Saturday night. Each bottle was labeled with an encouraging message from APEX young adults. Our team surrounded the stadium and interacted with people for over an hour.
  • We visited three amazing church plants on Sunday morning – Element, BridgePoint, and BridgeWay. We did kids ministry, skits, and helped with set up/tear down.
  • Sunday night we visited the homeless on the south side and gave away bagged lunches. The stories from this night were incredible. There is nothing like reaching out to the marginalized in our culture with the love of Jesus. So great to see young adults reaching out who have never done something like this before.
  • Monday & Tuesday involved specific evangelism challenges for everyone’s workday – doing a random act of kindness and sharing the Gospel with someone.
  • Once again, so proud of everyone on this trip. You worked hard and God used you in ways you may never know until Heaven.

  2. What a mission field you serve your trip to the Pirate Game brings to my mind Mt. 10:42 that a cup of cold water given in Jesus name will bring great reward. Your a terrific mission team!
